Put First Things First

Dear Trautwein Families,

This month we are learning about Covey’s Habit 3: Put First Things First. When we think about the many things in our lives, school/work, family and friends, hobbies, responsibilities, and so on, we can become overwhelmed. Even though our children are resilient, these responsibilities and stresses impact them as well. Being that our children are young, we have the opportunity to shape and mold their behaviors, especially how they prioritize their life and all that comes with it. As parents and teachers, we are models for our children, and it’s important for them to see us as examples. During our recent All School Community Sharing assembly, we focused on the importance of putting our family first, both our true home family, as well as our school family. Making time to care for others keeps our hearts full and our minds focused. From there, we emphasized the importance of fulfilling our daily life responsibilities at both home and school—things like homework and chores. Once we’ve focused our efforts on these priorities, then our lives are ready for the “not so important things,” though the things we still wish to enjoy—like video games, playing, etc. I hope that putting first things first in your life brings you happiness, fulfillment, and peace!

Warm Regards,
