Happy March Families!

With spring here and sunshine on the horizon, we move forward with these last months of school, full of enthusiasm!  While academics are surely important, this time of year reminds me of the value in children being children!  Research confirms what we know and live every day.  Children today have a flood of constant information, much of which their brains are not developmentally ready to handle. Pressures from home, school, friends, and self, alongside ever changing family structures and dynamics, cause kids face a world today, far different than those of the past.

All of this is a significant reminder that kids need the opportunity to just be kids.  While teaching accountability through school work and home responsibilities is important, kids (just as well-adjusted adults) need down-time.   Here are a few simple ideas that will likely bring a smile to your child(ren)’s face as they enjoy life:

~ Play outside—ride a bike, jump in puddles, play a sport

~ Play a game with family or friends

~ Be creative—make an artistic project, craft, build

~ Build a fort—in or outdoors

~ Spend time with a  friend—talking,  playing, just having a good time together

Hopefully you’ll take a few moments to enjoy a few of these moments as well!

Best Regards,

Shannon
